Ranjit's Kitchen
Glasgow, United Kingdom
The read// why locals go
Ranjit's Kitchen cooks Panjabi home food on Pollokshaws Road, entirely vegetarian, from a menu that changes with whatever produce is good. The family behind it are blunt about the point: the food has not been westernised, watered down or tampered with, and it shows in a short handwritten board rather than a laminated encyclopedia of curries. A daal of the day and a sabji of the day sit at the centre of it, around eight or nine pounds each, while the Panjabi thali brings both together with homemade yoghurt, salad, two rotis, pickle and chutney for just under fourteen. There is one room, one kitchen, and no second branch anywhere. Glasgow's Southside has adopted it as its own.
