Downstairs the stalls run to Basque cheeses, Cantabrian fish and produce from the surrounding valleys; the market bars serve pintxos and breakfast to people who arrived to buy rather than to eat. Around €9 covers a plate and a coffee, and there is enough vegetarian food among the stalls to build a meal. The most useful early stop in the city, and the least performed.
