Harukoma is a standing sushi counter beside Kuromon Ichiba, where the fish travels a few dozen metres from the market stalls to the rice. That proximity is the whole proposition: quality that would cost several times as much at a seated counter elsewhere, for around ¥2,000, eaten upright. There is no ceremony and no reservation — you join the line, take a space, order by pointing if the Japanese runs out, and leave once you are finished. Osaka has never reserved sushi for the evening, and this is the clearest demonstration of that; the regulars are here with a cold beer well before noon.
