The Chandni Chowk branch of Haldiram's puts a sweets-and-snacks counter on the main road of Old Delhi's oldest bazaar, which is a bit like opening a bakery in a wheat field — the competition is fierce and the standards are set by the street. The format is Delhi's own: savoury chaat, fried snacks and a long counter of Indian sweets, ordered fast and eaten standing or at a table upstairs. At around ₹150 a head it is cheap even by Chandni Chowk terms. Useful as a fixed point in a market where much of the best food has no address, no seating and no fixed hours.
