IU&ON
Nuremberg, Germany
The read// why locals go
IU&ON may be the oldest Thai kitchen in Nuremberg. It opened in 1972 as NID NOI, founded by Pieroh Harirak and Roland Kraus when almost nobody in the city had eaten Thai food; the younger sisters Iu and On joined later and eventually gave the house their names. More than fifty years on it is still family-run, now on Roritzerstraße in St. Johannis after leaving the old town. The cooking is the classic Thai repertoire done by people who have made it for decades rather than a modern reinvention of it, served in a proper dining room where booking a table is the sensible move.
