Frankenstube
Nuremberg, Germany
The read// why locals go
Frankenstube has been feeding Nuremberg's Nordstadt for more than forty years, an owner-run Wirtshaus on Pilotystraße with a beer garden behind it. Uschi Meister's kitchen cooks Franconian dishes alongside a lighter international card, and the daily lunch is a genuinely cheap plate — under nine euros, with a vegetarian or vegan version costing less still. Organic and conventional produce sit side by side, and the house takes allergies seriously enough to cook around coeliac disease and nut allergies on request. Forty-five seats inside, a separate room for a party of thirty, and a green courtyard that regulars call the neighbourhood's oasis.
