Vegefarm
Bremen, Germany
The read// why locals go
Vegefarm on Hamburger Straße is a Taiwanese restaurant and teahouse where nothing on the menu contains meat, and yet the menu is organised by animal — chicken, beef, pork, duck, lamb, squid, shrimp — following an old Buddhist convention. Owner Lo-Ping Tu answers each with a substitute, and through long marinades and unusual spicing gets remarkably close to the original. Dishes are built along traditional Chinese medicine principles, and high-grade Asian tea is a house speciality in its own right. The card runs from appetisers and soups through mains to desserts, with mains near 18 euros. One address in the Viertel, run by the woman who cooks there.
