The original Modern Electric Lunch of the 1920s claimed the first electric refrigerator in a Winnipeg restaurant; the current one found the old receipts during renovations and took the name. What arrives on the plate leans east of what the sign suggests — Palestinian breakfast, Turkish eggs, eggplant shakshuka, sumac chicken fatteh, a kofta pita — alongside strawberry rhubarb pancakes, a pastrami sandwich and a Cubano.
