Tartan Toque has been Victoria's wing house since 2012, double-cooking every batch until crisp and coating it hot in the sauce you choose. The Pandora Avenue room built its reputation on that one thing, and the city has voted it best wings more than once since. In the kitchen the work is unfashionably old-school: burgers, proteins, sauces, dressings and desserts are all made in house from scratch, and the taps pour beer from breweries a short drive away. Wraps and comfort-food plates fill out the rest of the board. Nothing here is built for a guidebook. It is the neighbourhood restaurant Victorians bring friends to when the plan is a pile of wings and a cold local pint.
