Rochelle Canteen occupies the converted bike shed of a former school off Arnold Circus, serving seasonal British cooking behind a wall you would otherwise walk straight past. You ring a bell in the brick wall to be let into the old playground, which doubles as the courtyard where tables are set out in warm weather. Inside, the kitchen cooks simply from whatever arrived that morning — a short, changing card, mains around £22. Lunch is the best of it. The Shoreditch art and design community has treated the place as its canteen since it opened, and the name is not a joke about that.
