E. Pellicci has fed Bethnal Green Road since 1900, still run by the Pellicci family behind a Grade II listed Art Deco interior fitted in 1946. The marquetry panelling and steel shopfront are why the building is protected, but the café never turned into a museum piece: full English breakfasts, salt beef sandwiches and mugs of tea, served to the same East End streets for well over a century. Plates come in around £9. Family-run across generations, it is one of the few London rooms that genuinely could not be recreated — the fittings, the customers and the people behind the counter all arrived together.
