Bar Pinotxo
Barcelona, Spain
The read// why locals go
Pinotxo is a counter of a dozen stools just inside the Rambla entrance to La Boqueria, and it has been cooking market produce since 1940 — chickpeas with blood sausage, salt cod omelette, cuttlefish, whatever the stalls a few metres away had that morning. It is a breakfast and mid-morning place in the way markets are: the food is at its best while the traders are still working. There is no table service and not much of a menu; you eat what is in the pans in front of you. Around €12 a head, standing or perched, in the middle of the noise.
