Addis in Cape serves Ethiopian food on Church Street, where injera arrives as both plate and cutlery and the whole table eats from one platter. Combination plates carry several stews at once, the tibs come sizzling, and the vegetarian fasting dishes — built for Ethiopian Orthodox observance — leave anyone eating without meat unusually well served. Dinner is the only sitting, and the room fills with Cape Town's Ethiopian community as much as with locals who came for something the city offers nowhere else. At around R160 a head it stays warm, unhurried and deliberately communal.
