Sher-E-Punjab
Lelystad, Netherlands
The read// why locals go
Sher-E-Punjab was the first Indian restaurant to open in Lelystad, and it still cooks the way it started: a tandoor at the centre of the kitchen, curries built from scratch, and a menu that travels from the north of India to the south rather than settling for one familiar handful of dishes. The address is Stadhuisplein, a short walk from the theatre and the station, but nothing about the place is aimed at passers-by. Grilled meats and fish come out of the tandoor properly charred, and the vegetarian side of the card is treated as cooking in its own right instead of an afterthought. Mains land around sixteen euros, and you can order the same food to take home.
