Barrel wine, Greek classics cooked to unchanged recipes, and live music at weekends, when the room turns into something closer to a party than a dinner service. Around €18 a head, evenings only. The square outside is unglamorous — this is working Athens, not Plaka — which is exactly why the taverna kept its character while prettier neighbourhoods lost theirs. Go late, go with a group, and expect to still be there when the musicians pack up.
