Weinstube Kachelofen
Stuttgart, Germany
The read// why locals go
Weinstube Kachelofen has been pouring regional wine and cooking Swabian food on Eberhardstraße for more than sixty years. It is the format Stuttgart invented and still does best: a wine tavern where the bottles come from the surrounding hills and the kitchen is entirely serious about the classics. Maultaschen, Rostbraten and Flädlesuppe are made in-house rather than bought in, and the card stays close to what Swabia actually eats instead of reaching for a wider audience. The house remains a single independent address, with a terrace for the summer. Central, but the crowd is local — this is where the city goes for its own cooking.
