Das Poffers Café
Stuttgart, Germany
The read// why locals go
Das Poffers Café brought a Dutch idea to Urbanstraße and built a whole kitchen around it. Poffertjes — small, thick pancakes cooked in a dimpled iron — arrive here in every direction the format allows, sweet in the classic manner but also savoury, turned into something closer to a proper plate. Around them sit breakfasts, wraps and baked potatoes, with vegetarian and vegan versions throughout, and prices that stay low. It is a sit-down room rather than a counter, with a terrace outside and the deliberately homely feel the owners describe as feeling at home. One product, understood properly, in a city that had nowhere else to find it.
