Curry 36
Berlin, Germany
The read// why locals go
Currywurst is Berlin's contribution to fast food — sausage, sliced, buried under curried tomato sauce — and Curry 36 has been serving it on Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg since 1981. There is a counter, a standing bar, nowhere to sit worth mentioning, and a queue that takes in builders in the morning and people leaving clubs at dawn. Around €5 gets sausage and chips. Whether it is the best in the city is a debate Berliners will happily have at length; that it is the one they keep queueing at is not really in dispute.
