Mehmet
Paris, France
The read// why locals go
Mehmet is a döner kebab shop on Rue Ramey in Paris's 18th that also runs a serious natural wine list, and the two ideas belong together here. Julien Catelain and Matthieu Haddak built it around free-range Normandy chicken, marinated in herbs, carved off the spit into flatbread made in house and finished with the bird's own jus, with mezze alongside. The room is modern and busy, tiled, more neighbourhood restaurant than counter service, and it sits on the Clignancourt side of the Montmartre hill. Four independent guides, Time Out and Le Fooding among them, have picked it out, which is a lot of attention for a kebab address. Prices stay moderate.
