The read// why locals go

Café Vlissinghe has been pouring beer in Bruges since 1515, which makes this Blekersstraat brown café one of the oldest still working in Europe. Five centuries have left it more or less alone: dark panelled wood, a stove, long scrubbed tables and a walled back garden that fills the moment the weather allows. The food is brown-café food and no more, Flemish snacks meant to be eaten alongside a local ale rather than studied, at around 10 euros. It sits in the quiet Sint-Anna streets rather than on the tourist axis, which is why the people at the next table are usually from Bruges.
