Xoi Yen sells sticky rice on Nguyen Huu Huan Street, and it is the version of Hanoi breakfast that office workers eat standing up before the day starts. It is a shop rather than a restaurant, trading until the rice runs out around midday and then closing regardless of who is still queuing. Vegetarian combinations are available. Bun Bo Nam Bo serves southern Vietnam's beef noodle salad on Hang Dieu Street, a Ho Chi Minh City dish that Hanoi long ago adopted as its own. The bowl is cold rice vermicelli under sauteed beef, herbs and roasted peanuts, dressed with tangy fish sauce - lighter and sharper than the hot noodle soups the city is better known for, and better suited to a humid afternoon.
