// where locals actually eat — updated September 2026
2 vetted neighbourhood spots in Emmen, Netherlands — Dutch Brasserie and Dutch Eetcafé, found through local word of mouth rather than a marketing budget. Brasserie Het Stadhuis Emmen currently leads the Emmen list at 4.3 (Dutch Brasserie). Every one of them is below.
Raadhuisplein 1 is about as literal as an address gets: this brasserie sits on Emmen's town hall square, serving Dutch brasserie cooking at around EUR 16 with tables out on the square. Brasserie in the Dutch sense means broad and unhurried - a menu wide enough that a table of five can agree on it without negotiation.
Terrace: There is outdoor seating for warmer days.
Angelslo is one of Emmen's planned post-war districts, and De Emmer Molen is its cafe-restaurant: a daily plate at about EUR 12, lunchtime trade, no pretensions beyond that. Eetcafes like this are the reason Dutch neighbourhoods still eat out at all - cheap enough to be ordinary, which is the harder thing to be.
Price: Typical main course around €12, ordered à la carte.
