Peranakan cuisine came out of Chinese settlement in the Malay world, and it is labour-heavy enough that fewer kitchens attempt it each decade: spice pastes pounded from scratch, slow braises, sweets that take a day. The building matters too, a former guild hall kept with its original fittings rather than restyled. Mains sit around RM35.
