Il Bicerin invented the drink it is named after in 1763, and has served it from the same tiny Turin room on Piazza della Consolata ever since. The bicerin is espresso, hot chocolate and cream layered in a small glass and never stirred — an institution that has resisted every attempt to improve it. The café is barely bigger than its counter, sits beside the Consolata church a short walk from the Porta Palazzo market, and has changed remarkably little in two and a half centuries. Around €10 covers a drink and something sweet. Sunday morning is when Turin claims it back from everyone else.
