Rambutan is a family restaurant in Drei-Kronen-Gasse where Thai and Vietnamese street food is cooked the long way round. The owners left Vietnam more than thirty years ago and opened here in 2007, and the kitchen still runs on family recipes: broths simmered for hours, curries seasoned fresh each service, no artificial flavour enhancers. The room is small and unhurried, built for a long dinner rather than a quick turnaround, and the old-town lane outside keeps the noise down. Regensburg has plenty of pan-Asian menus that try to cover everything; this one commits to two neighbouring kitchens and cooks them properly, which is why locals keep the tables full.
