Wienzeile, 1060Vienna

The read// why locals go

The Naschmarkt runs the length of the Wienzeile: Vienna's biggest open-air market and, by now, its most-used outdoor dining room. Produce stalls, spice merchants, Turkish and Middle Eastern grocers and a long line of stands and small kitchens sit shoulder to shoulder, most with tables out front. Eating here costs around €10, and the range is wide enough that vegetarians never have to search. On Saturdays the flea market at the far end pulls half the city down the Wienzeile. It is the one place in Vienna where the food is not Viennese by default, and it has been that way for a very long time.
